Jemille Duncan ’26 Highlighted as Rising Star in Philly Politics

6ABC: Swarthmore sophomore Jemille Duncan ’26 is a political prodigy, rising star in Philly politics

Philadelphia native Jemille Duncan ’26 was recently featured in a 6ABC series entitled Visions, which celebrates the city’s rich diversity, both past and present. For Black History Month, the series focuses on local stories of Black excellence.

Duncan, who is a McCabe Scholar and has been active in city politics since he was 14, recently began a position in City Hall as the manager of legislative affairs for Mayor Cherelle Parker and will work to advance her agenda in City Council.

“He’s like a genius already, and well beyond his years,” says Parker. “To have him as a part of our team, I’m super, super proud of it.”

Prior to assuming the role, Duncan served as an intern for State Senator Sharif Street and later as a staffer for Councilmember Anthony Phillips. He has written over 80 pieces of legislation and credits reading the U.S. Constitution for sparking his interest in government and public service.

“I’m working to change and craft the laws of the city and make life better for the people here,” says Duncan.
