I had the pleasure of spending my summer conducting research under the guidance of Dr. Andria Farrens at the University of California Irvine in the Biomedical Engineering lab of Dr. David J. Reinkensmeyer. This summer, I helped conduct an ongoing clinical trial for stroke patients using gamified therapy through the FINGER robot. Ultimately, the trial aims to aid in the recovery of control, sensation, and proprioception of the fingers, improving function as well as quality of life for stroke survivors. Additionally, I learned how to operate an EEG and analyze brain waves on both healthy subjects and stroke patients. My experience this summer not only gave me the unique clinical experience to work alongside stroke patients on their journeys to recovery, but also served as an exceptional introduction to Biomedical Engineering, and I extend my gratitude to all who supported me this summer.
