AI Growth Team — Financial Storytelling & Lifecycle Associate

DIY Finance is a place where we learn by doing. We’re a small, scrappy, founder-led team—minimal bureaucracy, lots of ambiguity, fast decisions, and real ownership. You may not arrive with years of experience, but you’ll be expected to plan, execute, and ship high-impact work that can improve the financial lives of everyday Americans.

If something needs to get done, we figure it out, use the best tools available, and move.

🚀 About DIY Finance

DIY Finance is building an AI-powered financial support system to help everyday Americans erase high-interest debt and build lasting wealth.

We combine a Financial Well-Being Score, a guided Journey, Next Best Actions, and Orb, our AI guide, to help people understand where they stand financially and what to do next.

Making that system work requires exceptional communication.

🎯 What You’ll Own

Your job is to help build the communications system of DIY Finance: what we say, when we say it, and what someone should understand or do next.

Projects and tasks may include:

  • Mapping communications from signup through onboarding, activation, progress, re-engagement, and membership.
  • Writing welcome and onboarding sequences.
  • Developing a monthly Must Know deep dive into our critical factors: Credit, Income, Expenses, Debt, Savings, Investments, and Home Equity.
  • Creating messages triggered by goals, milestones, Next Best Actions, and Virtue Trophies.
  • Reviewing and improving our current Brand Messaging Guide and transforming it into a Skill within Claude Code.
  • Creating timely Journey updates and useful financial nudges.
  • Auditing website and product copy for clarity and consistency.
  • Making DIY Finance, Orb, the Score, and Journey immediately understandable.
  • Reviewing and improving our website FAQs.
  • Supporting launch communications, educational content, and product updates.

The goal is not more content.

The goal is communication that earns attention, builds trust, and helps people act.

🔎 We’re Looking For

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • write unusually clearly—with AI as part of your toolkit;
  • enjoy editing and simplifying;
  • understand complex material before explaining it;
  • notice ambiguity and inconsistency quickly;
  • have excellent judgment about tone;
  • combine empathy with structured thinking;
  • use AI without outsourcing your judgment to it.

Journalism, English, communications, marketing, economics, finance, psychology, and public policy are all relevant.

Exceptional communication matters more than your major.

🌎 Georgetown-Based. Work From Anywhere.

DIY Finance is based in Georgetown, Washington, D.C., but you can work from anywhere, anytime.

We ask for at least 10 hours per week—enough time to own meaningful work and make an impact.

Most days, the founder offers an optional in-person or virtual drop-in for questions, collaboration, and problem-solving. We’ll also occasionally hold weekend jam sessions for roundtable updates, ideation, and tackling difficult problems together.

Join when useful. Otherwise, own your work and keep moving.

You’ll work directly on a live product using Claude Code, ChatGPT, Linear, Slack, Figma, and modern AI-native tools.

💵 Compensation & Academic Credit

We’re hiring selectively and may not fill every open role.

Compensation depends on directly relevant experience and demonstrated ability to contribute immediately and produce results.

For students earlier in their careers, the opportunity may also be structured for academic credit where permitted by university requirements, while providing substantive, portfolio-worthy experience building a live AI product.

🙋 Apply

There is no take-home assignment.

Send your résumé and very briefly answer:

  1. Why is DIY Finance’s mission meaningful to you?
  2. What skills and strengths would you bring to the team?
  3. How would you use them to improve our product communications and accelerate our growth?

Help us turn financial complexity into clear, useful next steps for everyday Americans.
