The Nehemiah Leadership Initiative (NLI) is an eight-month immersive fellowship that equips future Urban leaders to step into their kingdom calling through discipleship, leadership development, and Biblical justice education.
Each year, a group of fellows is selected to serve with Open Door Ministries from September to April.
Qualified fellows demonstrate the following:
- An enthusiasm for and commitment to an immersive 8-month fellowship, including its trainings, cohort activities, and the fellow’s ministry placement.
- A commitment to personal, spiritual, and professional growth through discipleship, spiritual disciplines, and the development of lifelong leadership habits.
- The desire to learn, receive feedback, and step into unfamiliar or challenging tasks.
- Consistent punctuality, organization, and follow-through on responsibilities.
- Strong interpersonal and relational skills for engaging with diverse populations (e.g., children, youth, adults, at-risk communities).
- The ability to collaborate with staff, program participants, and fellow cohort members as a team player and servant leader.
- Emotional resilience and cultural humility when serving in contexts of poverty, addiction, homelessness, trauma, and social problems.
- A willingness to engage in Biblical justice education, recognizing cultural narratives and one’s own biases in light of a Kingdom perspective.
- A desire to discern one’s calling and place in the Kingdom.
