STATUS: Full Time SALARIED EXEMPT

LOCATION: NYC & Brewster, NY, or remote

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

COMPENSATION: $75,000-85,000, $500 monthly taxable health care stipend

The Director of External Affairs promotes SPACE on Ryder Farm’s mission, vision, and core values. Their role is threefold:

  1. To create and implement marketing and communications strategies that strengthen the awareness of SPACE (both programmatically and as an institution) to its constituencies,
  2. To create earned revenue streams and communicate them effectively, and
  3. To execute the communications side of contributed revenue plans.

This position is an integral part of SPACE’s leadership and will help to model a collaborative, inclusive workplace. The Director of External Affairs will supervise the Digital Media Consultant and will work closely with the Executive Director, Development Manager (to be hired in the second quarter of 2023), and Institutional Giving Consultant. The department has the potential to grow to include a Communications Manager and external press representative.

POSITION DETAILS:

Institutional & Programmatic Marketing:

  • In collaboration with the senior leadership team, define and defend the institutional brand
  • Meet all of SPACE’s graphic design needs either through execution or in-budget external hire
  • Strategize and implement a system of regular communications to stakeholder groups
  • Maintain an active social media presence
  • Manage the organization’s website and ensure that the information presented is organized, updated, and aligned with the communications strategy
  • Review and maximize communications analytics
  • Report on external relations at quarterly board meetings
  • Promote residency applications and other opportunities
  • Promote awareness of on-farm community events

EARNED REVENUE DEVELOPMENT:

  • Create brand-aligned merchandise and determine appropriate sales methods
  • Investigate and implement earned revenue opportunities

CONTRIBUTED REVENUE COMMUNICATIONS:

  • Work with development team to create and implement a communications strategy to execute annual development plan
  • Work with the development team to generate graphic design for fundraising campaigns and events

PRESS

  • Manage the press database and calendar
  • Draft and send press releases in collaboration with relevant staff members
  • Respond to press inquiries

MORE ABOUT THE POSITION:

SPACE on Ryder Farm is a grassroots organization. The Director of External Affairs should be flexible, dexterous and eager and able to support in a multitude of ways. This is a full-time position with the ability to work remotely. SPACE observes a biweekly payroll.
