University of Washington Global and Rural Health Fellow

Who Should Apply
- Physicians committed to dignified, justice-oriented, sustainable health improvements for vulnerable populations—globally and locally
Program Structure – We offer two fellowship pathways:
- The 2-year Global and Rural Health Track:
- Year 1: Live and work with Native communities in Alaska or South Dakota
- Year 2: Domestic or international scholarly project (medical education or research) tailored to your interests
- The 1-year Rural Indigenous Health Track (RIHT): Combines clinical care and a concurrent scholarly project with 1/3 protected time, all while working with Alaska Native or American Indian population.
Training & Mentorship
- Curriculum grounded in health equity and decolonizing health systems
- Skills in strengthening health systems, implementation science, clinical research, etc.
- Broad mentorship network across the University of Washington
Academic Support
- Option to pursue an MPH at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine
- Opportunity to attend tropical medicine courses or tailored education experiences
Prerequisites
- Graduation from an ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine residency
- Board certified or board eligible
- U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Applicants from all backgrounds and life experiences are warmly welcomed
