Casual Fridays with GO Foundation

This week we are featuring GO Foundation in our Casual Fridays post. The mission of the GO Foundation is to provide students with access to a quality education through high dosage tutoring. Go Fellows are recruited and trained through the foundation and placed in partner schools to intensively tutor students. This is a year of service opportunity. The GO Foundation invests in the personal and professional development of their fellows. A select group of fellows are also selected into a residency program aimed at training them to then become classroom teachers.

Please enjoy this interview with the Go Foundation.

Kelly Dougherty: Hi Hannah! Thanks for joining us. Can you tell us a little bit about you and what you do at the GO Foundation?

Hannah Dubbs: Sure. Hello! My name is Hannah Dubbs and I work as a campus advocate for the GO Foundation.

KD: Great. I know that you are primarily recruiting for the GO Fellows position, What can you tell our students about it?

HD: The GO Fellow position is sponsored by AmeriCorps. It’s a full-time position for everyone post-graduation. The application is open to all seniors and they would begin the program in August after they graduate. Fellows have the opportunity to work with K-12 students in a mentorship and tutor role at our partnering schools. We believe that all students, regardless of socioeconomic background, should have access to high-quality education services. With our model, all students can!

KD: What other benefits can you share about the program?

HD: Fellows receive a bi-weekly living allowance, subsidized housing, access to health care and food benefits, mental health resources, and education award stipend upon completion.

KD: That all sounds awesome! Are you currently recruiting for seniors to begin in August of 2024?

HD: Yes! We recruit all year long; however, the spring season is prioritized as applications are on a rolling basis and typically end around June.

KD: I know that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion play a critical role in the mission of the GO Foundation. Can you talk to us a little more about that?

HD: Diversity is a key mission for GO Foundation and is in every aspect of our work. From staff development, to leadership training in diversity, equity, and inclusion, and equity champions in our schools, we support our fellows and make sure their voices are heard. Within our curriculum, we include culturally responsive education designers that make the classroom more engaging and inclusive for all students. In addition, we value a diverse staff, and consider diversity in our hiring process, for our leadership and board members, and even where we buy our supplies!

KD: What is your favorite part about working with the GO Foundation?

HD: Supporting students who have been traditionally left behind. As a fellow, working with these students one-on-one is extremely meaningful and creates bonds that last forever.

KD: Thank you for sharing that!. Finally, who can our students reach out to if they have any follow up questions?

HD: Hannah – hdubbs@gofellows.org
