The Role: Transformation Consultant
We are looking for a Transformation Consultant who is ready to roll up their sleeves and act as a pivotal engine within our delivery teams. In our “inverted pyramid” staffing model, you won’t be a face in a crowd; you will work directly with senior CGS Directors and client executives daily.
This is a hands-on delivery role where you transform high-level strategy into a tangible reality. You will spend much of your time interfacing with clients and will be their primary partner in solving problems. You will deliver on and lead portions of client activities as you assess the transformational catalysts that drive our clients’ ambitions, help them define where they want to go, and ultimately orient them toward a path to success in their transformation efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Pivotal Client Delivery
As a Transformation Consultant, you are the primary driver of the “first mile” of the client’s journey. This involves moving beyond theory to create tangible outcomes.
- Execution of Delivery Plans: You are responsible for following and managing specific elements of the engagement plan to ensure the project stays on track and meets its milestones.
- High-Impact Content Creation: You will develop professional deliverables, including long-form narratives and presentations, that must meet the standards of a “trusted advisor”.
- Root Cause Analysis: You must conduct rigorous information collection to structure complex problems, helping clients identify the actual “transformational catalysts” or “inertia” preventing growth.
AI-Augmented Excellence
CGS Advisors places a high premium on modern efficiency, expecting consultants to be “AI-literate” to multiply their effectiveness.
- Tool Mastery: You are expected to demonstrate mastery of AI tools such as Gemini and NotebookLM to accelerate analysis and refine communication.
- Continuous Learning: Part of the role includes active participation in internal AI literacy programs to stay at the forefront of emerging connected technologies.
Communication & Presence
Because you work directly with senior CGS Directors and client executives daily, your ability to simplify the complex is vital.
- Storytelling: You must develop illustrative presentations that don’t just show data but “tell a story” to guide decision-making.
- Executive Interaction: You are expected to communicate confidently at the senior executive level, build deep partnerships, and respectfully challenge the status quo when necessary.
Relational Stewardship & Client Empathy
Beyond technical proficiency, a Transformation Consultant must master the “human side” of change to successfully guide clients through the “first mile” of their journey.
- Building Trust through Integrity: You must be a “brave transformational advisor” who prioritizes truth over comfort and respectfully challenges the status quo to ensure the client’s long-term interests are protected.
- Radical Curiosity: Being a “quick study” involves more than just learning data; it requires a deep curiosity about the client’s unique business culture and the specific “inertia” holding them back.
- Empathetic Problem Solving: You are expected to be “passionate about solving complex and meaningful problems,” treating the client’s challenges as your own and demonstrating a genuine care for their enterprise value.
- Cultivating Deep Partnerships: As the “primary partner” in solving problems, you focus on creating lasting relationships that move beyond a vendor-client dynamic into a collaborative “GSD” team.
- Commitment to Client Success: You embody the “do what needs to be done” mentality, showing a disciplined commitment to exceeding expectations and helping iconic brands navigate significant disruptions.
Internal & Team Contribution
A Transformation Consultant is not typically responsible for unique business development (sales) activities; however, you are expected to contribute to expanding CGS’s footprint in existing accounts by presenting new opportunity concepts, presenting reuse concepts, and cultivating existing client relationships.
Additionally, you will have the opportunity to engage with one or more internal firm functions. This can range from marketing activities to business development to back-office activities (e.g., recruiting). Internal responsibilities will be assigned by the management and leadership team on an as-needed or as-desired basis.
Who You Are
Whether you are a high-achieving recent graduate or have several years of industry/consulting experience, we value your ability to be a “quick study” and a “self-starter.”
- Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree is required (preferably in business, IT, or engineering); an MBA is a plus.
- Analytical Rigor: You possess strong analytical skills, systems thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Adaptability: You can work in ambiguous environments where the path and desired outcomes may change over time.
- GSD Mentality: You are curious, disciplined, and embody our “Get Sh*t Done” culture.
- Influence: You can respectfully challenge the status quo and influence others to achieve business results.
- Technical Proficiency: You have deep experience with Google Slides, Sheets, and Docs (alternatively, Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel).
Why CGS Advisors?
- Meaningful Growth: We are a boutique-sized firm focused on quality and meaningful impact, not just headcount.
- Elite Mentorship: Work daily with former Fortune 50 CIOs, CTOs, and global strategy experts.
- High Impact: Help iconic brands navigate the most significant disruptions of our time.
- Modern Work Environment: We offer a mix of onsite (~10%) and remote (~90%) work, primarily in Metro Detroit.
- Compensation: We provide a competitive salary and benefits package.
