Job Summary:
Plans, implements and assesses a program of instruction that adheres to the district’s mission, philosophy and objectives while creating a nurturing and stimulating learning environment in which every student is expected to reach their own academic potential.
Flint Community Schools, an urban public school system with campuses throughout the City of Flint, Michigan, has a long and rich tradition of community education. Flint Community Schools provide a range of academic, extended services and extracurricular activities at the elementary and secondary levels to meet the needs of our students and their families.
Essential Functions:
1. Teaches art at the secondary level.
2. Develops hands-on units which teach art standards and align with core curriculum.
3. Instructs staff in the assigned building to use art to interrelate and integrate with the core subjects in support of content and performance standards.
4. Looks for opportunities to showcase students work.
5. May be responsible for conducting professional development sessions in art on professional development half-days.
6. Creates a minimum of two culminating activities a year.
7. Invites other fine arts staff to become involved in culminating activities, as appropriate.
8. Assists, as needed, with continued development of art performance standards and performance tasks as well as compiling exemplars and anchors.
9. Compiles statistics as directed.
10. Develops and effectively implements purposeful and appropriate lesson plans.
11. Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies.
12. Demonstrates high expectations for student achievement and behavior.
13. Presents information and directs structural learning experiences so that individual students learn.
14. Addresses the affective needs of students.
15. Develops, in accordance with district and building guidelines, reasonable rules of classroom behavior and appropriate discipline techniques which are consistent with those rules.
16. Assesses progress of students on an ongoing basis.

Qualifications:
Education: Michigan Teacher Certification with LX, LQ, or LZ endorsement required.
