The Tobacco Prevention and Control Program works to improve health by promoting and supporting policy, system, and environmental changes that reduce tobacco use and exposure. This position offers a unique opportunity to educate Missourians on evidence-based tobacco prevention through mass media campaigns, technical assistance, and partnerships with stakeholders.
The salary indicated represents a base pay rate. If the individual selected or the position is eligible for a pay differential (e.g., shift, security, or years of service), it will be added to the total compensation in your paycheck. A pay differential does not raise your base pay.
Responsibilities – What you’ll do
- Develop and manage contracts to develop messaging and communications to promote evidence-based policy, systems, and environmental strategies to reduce tobacco use and exposure.
- Prepare social media content, campaign messaging, press releases, infographics, fact sheets, toolkits and presentations for the Tobacco Prevention and Control Program and program partners.
- Assist with preparing scopes of work and budgets for mass media contracts.
- Provide training and technical assistance, build relationships, and collaborate with state and community partners to implement evidence-based communication strategies to prevent and reduce commercial tobacco product use, access, and exposure to secondhand smoke.
- Respond to requests for information, educational materials, webinars, and training from partners, coalitions, contractors, agencies, and others on best practices in tobacco control and prevention communication strategies.
- Assist in preparing grant applications, reviewing budgets, tracking performance measures, and developing progress reports.
- This position requires some statewide and national travel.
Qualifications – All you need for success
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and two or more years of professional experience in public health, communications, journalism, public relations, or a related communications field. In the absence of a degree, five plus years of relevant experience in the field will be considered.
- This position requires a high level of written and verbal communication skills. The ideal candidate is someone who can build trust, develop impactful partnerships, and has excellent networking skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely, translating complex public health concepts for target audiences into straightforward, actionable information and recommendations.
- Demonstrated ability to frame issues and recommendations with a clear understanding of Missouri’s cultural landscape, anticipating target audience perceptions, and tailing messages accordingly.
- Graphic design skills and experience using a variety of computer programs (including Word, Excel, Power Point, Adobe Creative Suite – especially InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator).
- Demonstrated experience with social media sites, Google and Microsoft suites and associated analytics.
- Experience using technology and a variety of computer programs (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, video-conferencing, and online survey platforms) for coordinating activities and project reporting.
- The ability to comprehend and interpret policies and laws is highly desired.
